What is Pilates?
Pilates is a safe, progressive form of exercise that emphasises core stability and control, which helps us to remain pain free and to move safely, efficiently and effectively in our everyday lives.
With its emphasis on controlled movement, Pilates is the perfect way to spot and correct any imbalances and tension in the body. You’ll become more aware of your body when you stand, sit and move, which is perfect for lessening pain, avoiding injuries and enabling you to move with control, balance and co-ordination at all times.

Body Control Pilates
Body Control Pilates is one of the world’s leading providers of Pilates teaching, and one of the largest professional Pilates organisations. It was one of the founding members of the Society for the Pilates Method, which aims to ensure the highest standards of Pilates training possible.
It’s comprehensive programme of exercises are adapted from the original Classical exercises developed by Joseph Pilates (1883-1967), which have been broken down so they’re suitable for the average person. This makes it possible to establish effective movement skills safely, and have a solid foundation on which to build towards the more advanced, traditional matwork exercises.

The exercises enable you to achieve core stability by working on the deep architectural structure of the body. This can then be maintained through increasingly complex movements. Specific problem areas can be targeted by certain exercises, but always in relation to the body as a whole.
Body Control Pilates classes are suitable for everyone, regardless of their fitness level. Matwork classes are especially popular due to their safety for those with back problems – and 95% of the UK population has, or has suffered from, backache. Its incredible success in solving such issues has brought it to the attention of osteopaths, physiotherapists and other clinicians, many of whom use Pilates as part of the practices, or have a close working partnership with their local Body Control Pilates teacher.
